Villagers oppose cascade of dams in Lohit basin

HAWAI, Feb 17: Large dams proposed in Lohit basin is giving way to fear in the minds of people of Anjaw district. The affected villagers under the banner of People’s Forum for Project Affected Families (PFPAF) is opposed to cascade of dams being proposed in Lohit basin.

The Lohit basin is proposed with 11 hydro power projects that include 1250 MW Hutong II, 99 MW Gimiliang, 96 MW Raigam, 98 MW Tidding I, 68 MW Tidding II, 1450 MW Kalai I, 1200 MW Kalai II, 1760 MW Demwe Lower, 21 MW Kamlang, 5 MW Rima and 1800 MW Demwe upper.
Demwe lower received the wildlife clearance by ministry of environment and forest on Tuesday despite opposition from members of the National Board of Wildlife (NBWL). Much of the projects in the Lohit basin were allotted to private developers during former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu’s regime.
Determine to make their voice heard, PFPAF members also met Rajya Sabha MP Mukut Mithi in Tezu on Tuesday and conveyed the mandate of the people of Anjaw to demand cancellation of Hutong II and Kalai II projects. Mithi was on his way to Hawai for Tamladu celebration.
The organization also apprised the MP of the malpractices by Anjaw district administration regarding acquisition of land and the violation of norms and guidelines for Khupa (Hayuliang) – Hawai highway widening project.
Responding to the grievances, Mithi said state policy has adequate provisions for the land owners to be compensated adequately. He cited the case of Rupa in West Kameng where land owners were adequately compensated by the government for similar highway projects.
On hydro projects, Mithi said all concerns will be represented by him to appropriate authorities in the state and in the Centre.

Presided over by NES president Bengia Tolum, the meeting concluded with the bilateral resolution to bring tangible peace and harmony in the boundary areas.

cadres served extortion notices to Nyishis living in the Seijosa and Dissing Passo

In addition, regional and local peace committees comprising members from both tribes would be formed to coordinate with the community level committee, which will organize unity rallies to build mutual trust, and organize cultural exchange programmes in Nyishi and Bodo areas of both states. The committee’s leaders are expected to meet the Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam to apprise them of the ground realities in the context of initiating the process of peace process and development in the region.
BSS president Dr Kameswar Brahma reassured the Nyishis sharing boundary with Bodos of peace and security. He recalled the contributions of the Nyishis during the infamous Assam turmoil in the 1980’s and the Udalguri riot, and said the Nyishis were “asol bondhu (true friends)” of the Bodos.

Dr Bengia Mala Kop rose to fame with Meri Dharam Meri Maa movie. She won hearts of many male fans with her role as ‘Yalam’, the heroine of the movie.
Born on 1st August 1964 at Chulyu village under Yazali circle of Lower Subansiri, she is a doctor by profession and is currently working as senior gynaecologist with Arunachal State Hospital, Naharlagun.
Rinchen Dorjee, the former APPSC Chairman is one of renowned artistes of Monpa community. Born on 25th August 1959 he began his career at AIR Tawang by participating in various programmes like talk show and plays.
The play titled "EVILS OF SMUGGLING" broadcasted in the year 1975 during emergency period was taken to Delhi for competition in all India level. He recorded traditional Monpa songs for Radio programme. He also participated in various programmes representing Monpa tribe in AIR Itanagar and DDK Itanagar. He composed and released first Monpa Audio Cassette composed in the year 1995. His famous works include Trinsang Karpo, Monyul and Yang Si, all of them Monpa audio cassette.
No deviation from PMGSY norms: Pema
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: RWD and Tourism Minister Pema Khandu inspected various PMGSY roads in Tirap and Longding during his two days tour to the districts on February 15 and 16.
Emphasizing on improvement of work quality and timely completion of roads, Pema cautioned the field engineers not to deviate from the standard guidelines and norms of PMGSY.
“We need to put in extra efforts as PMGSY roads are targeted to provide connectivity to the rural population living in remote locations” said Pema to the engineers on site. He however was satisfied with works in Longding area and appreciated the officers for their hard work despite remoteness.
On his arrival at Pongchou on February 16, Pema Khandu inaugurated the newly constructed tourist lodge there. Later he attended “Oriah” festival celebration.
Addressing the huge gathering, Pema greeted them on the joyous occasion of Oriah. Being deeply impressed with colourful cultural function presented on the occasion, Pema asserted that the well preserved rich culture and tradition will definitely act as prime component for boosting cultural tourism in the area.
“Tourism department is actively working on opening of new tourist circuits in Tirap, Longding and Changlang districts and I will personally see that Pongchou is included in one of these circuits” assured Pema. He further added that the State Government under leadership of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki is making consistent efforts to bring all round development in every nook and corner of the state. Plans afoot to start Daporijo Degree college
DAPORIJO, Feb 17: Power and RD Minister Tanga Byaling, State Planning Board Deputy Chairman Takar Marde, MLA Tapen Siga, DC Ameya Abhyankar, SP Apur Bitin, heads of the department of Upper Subansiri district, PRI members, public leaders and student leaders in a meeting held here yesterday expressed happiness over the fulfillment of the long felt need for an institute of higher education in the district which would not only benefit the student community but could also be seen as a sign of future development to follow in the district. The meeting was convened by the Upper Subansiri district administration to discuss regarding setting up of a Government Degree College at Daporijo.
A lot of people also expressed willingness in donating land for setting up of a college which would help in developing the human resource of the area.
Addressing the meeting, Byaling said that there was an urgent need for setting up and starting a college here as hundreds of student from the district are studying outside and facing hardships. He added that the aim of all should be of encouraging educational future of the students of the district.
Takar Marde and Tapen Siga also spoke on the occasion. They expressed their opinion that the location of the college should be ideal so that a good environment can be created for the students to grow and develop.
DC Abhyankar said that setting up of the college would not only benefit the student community of the area but would also develop the area economically. He also cautioned the people that any land for the college should be gifted freely and without any encumbrances and conditions.

Chief Minister expressed his happiness after seeing the Museum and artefacts displayed in scientific method facilitating natural light besides artificial light as per modern museum guidelines. Tuki conveyed appreciation after knowing that this community museum is the only museum constructed and arranged scientifically in Arunachal Pradesh under technical guidance, supervision of the Department of Research as a nodal department of the project.
The farsighted efforts of Minister Chowna Mein, venerable Vimalanand Bhikku, YD Thongchi, the then Commissioner, Department of Cultural Affairs, Director of Research in specific and officers of the Research Department in general is reflected in the project. They worked together as team towards this dream project in preserving the tradition and culture of Tai Khampti and Singpho communities.
Out of 441 specimens 300 rare artefacts including manuscripts are on display in the museum. Museum is located in the complex of Pali Vidayapith, Chowkham. The building was designed by architect Dawa Tsering, Senior Architect, P.W.D, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh.
Irregularity alleged in awarding contract works for mining and marketing coal
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Former Minister and Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad Joint Secretary Talo Mugli alleged that the contract works for mining and marketing of coal in the state was awarded to Tinsukia (Assam) based National Mining Company Private Limited (NMCL) by the Arunachal Pradesh Mineral Development and Trading Corporation (APMDTC) in connivance with then ministry of mines in 2006 by manipulating the terms and agreements.
The contract which was awarded in April 2006 will expire in April 2012, but a provision of extending the contract work upto 12 month was added in the clause, which is illegal and against the law, Mugli said.
He alleged that the managing director of the said NMCL had played the key role in the manipulation of the contract, clauses and irregularities in environment safety and wildlife protection.
The company was also accused of manipulating coal prices of different grades to make hefty profit. “NMCL is selling coal at around Rs.4000 to Rs.8,000 a tonne for different grades of coals against rate fixed by APMDTC which range from Rs. 1100 to Rs 1470 for different grades,” Mugli claimed and appealed to the state government to invite tender for mining coal in Arunachal Pradesh.

After conducting the patrol for a 448 kms in its area of responsibility the flag will be handed over by DIG (Tezpur) to DIG (Itanagar) at Mebo in West Siang dist on February 18.

IFCSAP seeks fund from Govt
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP), in a memorandum to the chief minister has urged for sanctioning necessary fund for smooth organization of the ensuing state level Youth Festival in October, 2012.

PPDFPSDWA demands full quota of fair price items
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Papum Pare District Fair Price Shop Dealers Welfare Association (PPDFPSDWA), in a memorandum, has urged the Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs Minister to direct the authority concerned to supply full quota of PDS items, especially rice, wheat and kerosene to the twin capital cities.
The PPDFPSDWA alleged that the supply of rice and kerosene to the twin capital cities is less than actual allocation. ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Oriah, the agricultural festival of the Wanchos was celebrated today with pomp and gaiety by the people of Wancho community residing in Tezu.

‘Allegation against EE baseless’
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Yazali Anchal Chairperson has termed the allegation levelled against Executive Engineer, Yazali PWD division by various organizations as baseless and unfounded.
“The EE is very amenable with enough experience of dealing with the public/PRI members with cooperative attitude. The official, who is innocent, sincere and duty bound, should not be leveled such allegations,” the Anchal Chairperson said.
Further, the proposed Lower Subansiri bandh demanding transfer of the EE for his alleged misappropriation of fund is uncalled for, he added.

ITANAGAR, Feb 17: The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Changlang KVK was held on February 15. Altogether 11 members attended the meeting.
In his inaugural address, Utpal Wailong, Branch Manager, SBI Jairampur emphasized on collaborative efforts of all the line departments and organizations for serving the rural sector and more precisely the farming community.
Presiding over the meeting, Nini Pertin,OSD KVK Cell, (agronomist) Naharlagun requested all the members present to give their valuable suggestions in the technical session. Dr. N. Kumar, Programme Coordinator, KVK Changlang also spoke on the occasion.

AWS general conference held
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: The Akom Welfare Society (AWS) general conference cum election was held at Ligu village, Daporijo with a four days programme from February 9.
Participating in the programme on February 10, Parliamentary Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Food and Civil Supplies, Nido Pavitra released the genealogy book of Akom Clan. DC A Abhyankar also attended the conference.
Society for early construction of road
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: All Tator Tani Area Welfare Society appealed to the PWD, Dumporijo division to start the soiling, metalling and carpeting works of road from Subansiri bridge to Segi headquarters before the onset of rainy season.
“We have come to know that an estimated cost of Rs.19.44 crore has been sanctioned under NLCPR scheme against PWD Bui road from Subansiri bridge to Segi Hqs. but no initiative has been taken so far to start the work,” the Society in a release said and appealed to the PWD, Dumpori division to take up forward step in this regard without any further delay.

It’s like diamond Gift to people of Upper Subansiri district. We the members of Pombu Kow Welfare Society in particular and the people of the district in general are really thankful to Tuki and Byaling.
Upper Subansiri district is lowest in decadal growth in every field like social, education, health and economic etc. To compensate all those shortfalls, both the leaders are putting all out efforts to bring in development in Upper Subansiri district. It takes too much time
Dear Editor,
This is with reference to the advertisement published by Urban Development and Housing Department in your daily (8th August, 2011) for the post of Assistant Urban Programme Officers (AUPO's) duly reserved for meritorious sportspersons and physically handicapped persons. The department has already conducted written examination for the physically handicapped persons on 17th & 18th December, 2011. But the result of written examination is yet to be declared. Why the department is not able to declare the said results yet? There were only 13 candidates who had appeared in the written examination. So in my opinion, according to the number of candidates, it should not take too much time on evaluating the answer scripts. We have already waited for one and half month. But how long we have to wait for the written examination results?
So it is my humble request to UD & Housing Deptt. to declare the results as early as possible.
